I was approached by the good folks at GIV3 to create a 2 minute video showcasing the story of ‘Granny’s Birthday Club’. We met and discussed the many possible approaches we could take to creating a video like this, and agreed upon a style that we all thought was best suited to the message of GIV3.

Despite the simplistic visual style of this video, the process in which it was created was anything but simplistic. It required many steps of drawing, printing, tracing, scanning, compositing, tweaking, and that is before all the editing even begun! Enjoy the video and have a look at some production stills below.

This video was a lot of fun to work on, and I am always glad to be able to collaborate on projects for a good cause. Check out the video, and ‘Like’ or ‘Share’ it below!

After Effects Handwriting Tutorial

This is a helpful tutorial to create an animation of a marker writing out a logo or a few words, followed by a slick reveal to an actual logo.

This is my first tutorial. I hope you enjoy it!

Here is a quick step by step guide…
1. Create your final image
2. Print the logo only without any backgrounds. Just the part you are intending to trace
3. Trace with a thin marker
4. Scan the image
5. Adjust the levels in photoshop
6. Import into After Effects
7. Size scanned image to line up with original artwork
8. Apply stroke effect
9. Use the pen tool to trace over scanned image
10. In the stroke effect, change to reveal original image
11. Increase brush size
12. Animate the end from 0 to 100%
13. Add marker graphic
14. Keyframe the position to trace the drawn image frame by frame
15. Tweak as you like!

March of the Living 2012

I am very proud to announce that I have been hired to film and edit the March of the Living trip for the Montreal delegation for the third consecutive year. The trip means a lot to me and it is always a privilege to be a part of it.

The Book of Y is a 240-page book dedicated to celebrating the future of Montreal’s YM-YWHA. Our team was hired for all graphic design related to the project. Working with a strong production group, we approached the project as a magazine with a very fresh style, that was a new direction for our client.

After a print run of 1000 copies, great feedback began to roll in from the recipients, and we are very excited about the results.

Sebastien Vettel: Infinity F1

Ari at Imagination Creations was hired as the key editor for Prism’s featurette on Sebastien Vettel as an Infinity car driver for the Montreal Grand Prix.

The job involved, amongst other things, a 36-hour editing session in order to produce a video by the following morning using footage from 2 broadcast cameras, mounted on race cars and helicopters a Go-Pro mounted to the front of Sebastien Vettel’s car and a series of interviews.

Working with very talented cameramen and a well-managed team of producers, the video turned out to be a huge winner… as was Mr. Vettel for the 2011 Formula 1 season.
